Charlestown Azzurri has first grade and reserve grade teams in the National Premier League Women (NPLW).

The NPL was established in 2013 after Football Australia’s national competition review. Its purpose was to rebrand and revitalise state and member federation-based competitions in Australia and improve opportunities for elite player development. The NPL Women’s NNSW competition started in 2022.

The NPLW is a national second-tier competition that supports the women’s A-League competitions. Many former A-League and Matildas players have been involved in this level of competition.
